Many Marvel characters feel like cutouts, dull in their predictability, because Marvel tends to play it safe when it comes to its heroes. Jessica Jones feels more human, more well-rounded, than pretty much anyone else in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Ritter’s Jones could have been a one-note snark machine, a boozed-up vector for cynical one liners and exhausting bitterness. Both are extremely watchable, but Jessica Jones is less afraid to step outside the box, to tell stories that aren’t just “dark” but uncompromising and resonant.)Ī lot of credit goes to Krysten Ritter, who knocks the role of Jessica Jones out of the park. Marvel’s Jessica Jones demonstrates a type of ambition atypical when it comes to the ever-expanding genre of comic book adaptations. Marvel’s latest Netflix show is an entirely new take on what a superhero story can be. ![]()
